The Gray in the Closet

Article and Art by Brian W. Hastings

There are times when I feel ecstatic about finding a good story and then instantly feel guilty when I see the toll the claim took on the teller.

This story was gained through a friendship where we felt safe telling each other impossible stories previous in our lives. I recently asked this friend if I could interview him about the story for this blog.

This story retells an encounter with something he believed was a supernatural entity. Hostile, the physical form appeared inside his bedroom and vanished without either a way in or out. The entity also appeared to control time and did not like light. Wes later found he was not alone in seeing this entity. A friend claimed a fight happened involving the figure at a different location. Sounds like a possible malevolent spirit right?

The catch to this story is Wes’s description matches typical Grey alien descriptions.

This happened when Wes was still in his teenage years. He cannot remember the year, but does remember it being summertime the day before his family reunion. This probably was the third of July.

He just fought through a serious argument with his father. Fuming, Wes went into his bedroom slamming the door. He remembers an instant unexplained uneasiness. It was early evening with the room dark, but not pitch-black.

Frustrated from arguing, he plopped down on the bed and reached over to turn the bedside light on. The lamp did not work; and as he fiddled with it, he peered beneath the table and saw the lamp unplugged. He became irritated when unable to reach the cord.

He looked over to his closet and saw a strange face among his closet items. Thinking he must be imagining, Wes closed his eyes. When he opened them again, the face remained. He described it as oval shaped and with huge black eyes. The nose was simply a set of slits. The mouth was small.

To remove any doubt in Wes’s mind; the eyes blinked. There were no visible eyelids before and they disappeared afterwards.

As soon as he witnessed the eyes blink, Wes was heading for the door. He does not remember getting out of bed. He does remember the door was; without explanation; locked. His body felt paralyzed while moving without him. His head turned allowing his eyes to half glance over his shoulder.

The entity stood directly behind reaching towards him. It stood somewhere around four and a half feet tall. The entire body was thin. The limbs appeared normal length for its height.

During this particular moment, time stopped around him, even though both him and the entity still moved.

Suddenly, Wes was aware of himself screaming outside the home’s front door. He had no memory between the two moments. He needed to somehow gain control of his body, unlock his bedroom door, escape the being’s touch, run through the house, and finally open the front door. There exists no memory of anything.

It shook Wes to the core. After telling his mother what happened, she checked the room and found nothing. Wes still refused to go in that room and even moved into his sister’s room the next day. He spent a rough sleepless night on the couch petrified the being was going to come get him again.

Two details, he did manage to fill in later:

1.)His mother told him the screaming began from almost the time he went in.  Wes did not remember screaming while in the bedroom.

2.)The memories not missing took up about a half hour according to him. His mother said he was only in the bedroom for two to five minutes.

It turned out Wes was not the sole person he knew to see this entity either. Among his tight group of friends, one of them not only faced a similar entity, but claimed to have struck it in the face. It was not until years later that Wes told his story and found his friend had already told three more of their friends his encounter.

Among claims of extraterrestrial encounters, it is not uncommon for friends to find they have similar experiences. People believing themselves abducted find each other without knowing them beforehand (or realizing they knew from their experiences). In demonic accounts; the spirit focuses on one person, but will terrorize that person’s family as well. Some cases claim demonic infestations travel great distances attacking anyone knowing of that person’s plight or trying to help.

The interesting clue of all involves a piece of this story not heard much in alien reports, but fits extremely well in the malevolent spirit theory. Wes already felt uneasy before having any clue of this being hiding or appearing in his room.

Out of curiosity, I asked him if the entity felt reptilian like or insect like. His answer was neither. I also asked Wes if he knew any other strange events happening during that time. The answer was no.

As a note, this happened five miles from Tuckahoe State Park in Maryland.
